Known as “The Great American Race”, the Daytona 500 is perhaps the most well-known motorsports event in the world, drawing over 20 million television viewers and 147,000 attendees to the Daytona International Motor Speedway each year.

This year, in coordination with DRIVE4COPD (a community health initiative to educate and screen the public for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) NASCAR held a VIP event in the infield prior to the race in which they used ACCESSTM Event Technology Platform and NFC-enabled custom VIP passes to enhance the experience for the attendees and streamline the process for the event coordinators.

The VIP list included many notable guests including musicians 50 Cent and Jake Owen, The Bachelor’s Juan Pablo Galvais, Captain America star, Chris Evans and NASCAR CEO Brian France in addition to numerous representatives from NASCAR teams and sponsors.

Each of the nearly 600 guests that checked into the event were given tech-enabled custom VIP badges. The numbered badges were associated to the attendee and after registration the attendee tapped their pass to a smart phone credential reader held by the event hostess who greeted them and granted admission. Many attendees were amazed that their pass, when simply tapped to the Access Event Technology smartphone, displayed their name and welcomed them to the NASCAR Garage Bar & Grill.

When the VIPs tapped their pass to gain entry a SMS text message was automatically sent to a NASCAR account manager, notifying the account manager of the VIP arrival.

The check-in process had previously been accomplished with paper lists and highlighters, and without any sort of automated notification of VIP arrival. With the use of the ACCESSTM Event Technology Platform, the event team ensured a more efficient and memorable welcome experience for their VIPs.

One VIP even took a picture of the ACCESSTM Event Technology Platform smart phone displaying their name after a simple tap.

“It’s so simple,” said a member of the event team.

ACCESSTM Event Solutions is proud to work with NASCAR and JHE Production Group to deploy event technology that enhanced the efficiency and experience of this live event.
